Exhibition features remarkable aspects of Seychelles

A collection of paintings featuring remarkable aspects of Seychelles are presently on display at Carrefour des Arts in Victoria. On a variety of subjects including buildings, scenes and persons, they are the work of S. Anandan Padayachy, an artist of Indian origin who until now had kept his work out of the limelight.
The 33 year old resident of Maldives owns a studio at Majoie. Besides painting creatively as a hobby, he also does commercial painting, signboards and portraits. He has never gone to any school to learn art but says he has gained a lot of experience by painting at home. According to him, the present exhibition signals a different way of seeing art. He now intends to make a career out of it. His main challenge however is to find contracts, especially with tourism establishments. He says that he has many new ideas to decorate buildings and will put them into practice if he is presented with the opportunity.
The current exhibition will be on until 14th August. All the paintings are on sale with prices that range from R2,500 to R8,000. Anandan Padayachy says that his services are available to individuals or establishments interested in his work. He can be contacted on Tel: 572024.
