Triathlon - Baldwin finishes 15th in London Triathlon
TRIATHLETE Nick Baldwin warmed up for his last two competitions of the year by taking part in the London Triathlon last Sunday.
The England-based Seychellois triathlete competed in the sub 2 hours, 30 minutes category
reserved for amateur triathletes of all ages and he finished 15th out of 173 with a time of 2h13:39.
His split times in the race were: 1,500m swim (26:37), 40km cycling (1h00:34) and 10.8km run (41:24).
Graham Leitch won this category with 2h02.54, followed in second and third places by Robert Brundish (2h03:59) and Graeme Bryce (2h07:03).
Baldwin said the race was a good test of his current fitness, having recovered from Ironman Austria five weeks ago.
He added that he will next compete in Monaco on September 5, where he hopes to compete and win his age group.
Baldwin’s season will end with the 2010 Ironman World Championships in Hawaii on October 9.
The London Triathlon is the biggest in the world in terms of the number of competitors, and this year around 13,500 people competed in the race. Some top Olympians also took part in the elite race. Among the famous people who took part was Formula 1 driver Jenson Button in the amateur category.
In July, Baldwin qualified for the Ford Ironman World Championships in Hawaii after winning the 18-24 age group category of the Ironman Austria race in Klagenfurt.
He was the star in his age category, finishing with a cumulative time of 9 hours, 31 minutes, 33 seconds (9h31:33) – a personal best – to be ranked 94th overall out of over 2,200 athletes (including professionals).
There were 50 competitors in the 18-24 age division.
