Remembering Jaris Mozese, the cycling champion
Jaris Mozese, one of Seychelles first round Mahe cycling champions, has passed away and his funeral service was held at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Victoria on Thursday.

Most people will however remember Jaris for his deep voice, during the days when he was a presenter and news reader at Radio Seychelles and also as a teacher.
He rose to the post of head-teacher at Anse Etoile, where his jovial character made him popular among teachers and pupils alike.
At Radio Seychelles, he was also well-liked by the journalists as he always had an interesting story to tell, often from his frequent fishing trip in his home village of Belombre.
It is said that his voice, if not deeper than that of his equally popular colleague, Gilbert Confait, compelled radio technicians to adjust the bass at the controls whenever Jaris went on air.
He subsequently immigrated to Australia and sadly that was when things started to go wrong for Jaris. He fell ill and had to return home after a few years, physically, only a shadow of himself. He could not go back to teaching, but former colleagues at SBC willingly took him on.
Jaris had lost none of his wit and joviality and he started reading the news again. But the illness continued to take its toll and he never recovered.
Good bye Jaris. Your friends from teaching and journalism will always have fond thoughts of you.
