New tourism ambassador shares views of Seychelles
Popsy D’souza-
Getonga is one of
the first to be appointed
Seychelles Tourism
Ambassador under the
new marketing strategy
launched this week. She
was among 14 personalities
appointed to represent
Seychelles in different
parts of the
world.
Mrs D’souza-Getonga, née Mothée, was born in Seychelles but later went to Kenya where she got married. She has now lived there for 25 years and is a partner in a tourism business.
This week after her nomination as tourism ambassador to Kenya, Mrs. D’souza-Getonga revealed her enthusiasm to the press. She believes that Kenya and Seychelles offer a good combination of holiday attraction for visitors from Europe and the west, which she hope to market. She also plans to do more to interest native Kenyans to holiday in Seychelles.
The first Seychelles’ tourism ambassador to Kenya believes that there is a need to introduce more flights between Nairobi and Seychelles, as KQ only operates 2 flights a week and this frequency is not enough. That is an area that STB should look into, she says.
Secondly, she also adds, the STB should explore the possibilities of cruise ship business between the two countries because Seychelles is strategically located in the Indian Ocean and with high quality beaches and hotels. But the existing security within the Indian Ocean region must be enhanced to ensure the business.
Besides coming to attend STB’s marketing meeting, Mrs Popsy D’souza-Getonga was also in the country to visit her family members.
