SNP MNAs ready to work in new Assembly

SNP members meet at the new building
SNP members of the National Assembly will be ready for work in the new Assembly building, while maintaining the principles that led them not to attend the opening ceremony.
The members from the SNPwent on their first familiarisation tour of the building donated by the People’s Republic of China and located on Ile du Port, one of the islands in Victoria harbour, this week.
When the party decided not to attend the opening ceremony in December last year, SNP Leader Wavel Ramkalawan wrote to Speaker Herminie, stating the reason. “While acknowledging the generosity of the Chinese government in its readiness to assist Seychelles in its development, the SNP feels that the building housing the institution that symbolises our country’s democracy should have been erected from the resources of the country rather than be granted by another sovereign nation,” Mr. Ramkalawan said.
However, the Party has always made it clear that its members will do the work they were elected to do in the new premises. On the familiarization visit, they were briefed on the facilities and procedures for the new building and met with members of the secretariat.
The Assembly will open for the year with the President’ State of the Nation address, expected to be before the end of the month.
