$100m Ephelia Resort opens

The 300-room US $100 million Ephelia Resort at Port Launay opened yesterday with 70 guests and expects to have 120 today and 200 tomorrow, its general manager Philippe Guitton told Nation.

General manager GuittonHe said 360 of its 650 staff are Seychellois – most of whom came from the public sector – and have been getting training at the resort since the beginning of December.

“Nearly 60% of the staff are Seychellois and most of them did not come from other hotels. We trained them,” said Mr Guitton.
He added that the five-star hotel has its own desalination plant and power generators, and now gets neither water nor electricity from the Public Utilities Corporation.

Mr Guitton said the hotel is the largest in the Indian Ocean, spanning two kilometres, with 56 swimming pools, five restaurants and 30,000 power-saving light bulbs.
