A Bigger Dose Of Nature
By Nature Seychelles

Captivated by a beautiful sunset, calmed by the sound of the sea lapping at the beach, a warm breeze carrying the scent of aromatic flowers, the sweet taste of your favourite fruit nourishing your body, warm, soft sand supporting you while you lie at peace. An invigorating journey though the mountains, strengthening your legs, expanding your lungs whilst the beauty of nature nourishes your every fibre.
Many of us are familiar with experiences like these, personal to every one of us; times we have had on our own, with loved ones and friends. These are not exclusive experiences to be had by the few but available for everyone of us at any time. Our natural world around us gives us so much when we let it, allowing us to be healthy, happy, fit, well and content with our world and lives. Whether it has been your garden, looking out of a window at a towering tree, on the beach, in the mountains or the local park all of us seem to have it at our core to seek out and be nourished by our world around us.
Nature Seychelles is set to launch a new and innovative program that will help us promote this appreciation of nature. A staffer, Robin Hanson, newly arrived from the UK is here to help us implement our “Eco Health” program. The program that will combine a diverse range of classes, workshops and special events, will offer participants the opportunity to explore and develop every aspect of their well being be it physical strength, aerobic fitness, mental and emotional life, and diet including using your green fingers, by using nature as the pivot of the activities.
“Class types will include a non-faith based system of yoga, meditation, physical fitness training, healthy diet and special events, mostly all outdoors. At the heart of all sessions will be the premise of our well being and how our own efforts can be aided by the exploration of our natural world around us. Classes will evolve to become tailored to group needs and interests,” says Robin.
Robin has fifteen years experience with meditation and yoga and is a qualified British Wheel of Yoga teacher. A lifetime passion for wildlife has evolved into an environmental career culminating in the management of an internationally important wetland site for birds. He is a keen sportsman and enjoys cross country running, hiking, swimming and diving.
He has amassed an extensive knowledge of health and well being practices, followed the research on the health benefits of green space and delivered various health/environmental projects. He has worked with a full spectrum of the community; children to retired, individuals to whole communities the general public to specialized groups. Through the Nature Seychelles Eco Health program he will deliver a full range of exciting sessions to meet the varied interests and needs of the Seychelles community.
Worldwide, a greater appreciation of how nature positively affects our well being is growing. Researchers have found out that just five minutes of exercise in a park, working in a backyard garden, on a nature trail, or other green space will benefit mental health, a scientific study published this year in the American Journal Environmental Science & Technology has shown..
