Businessman Simon Mondon passes away

Well-known Seychellois businessman Simon Mondon passed away on Thursday this week at his home at La Misere.

 Simon Mondon passes away

Mr. Mondon, 69, was the head of the SeaLand Air company, based at the New Port, Victoria, which is engaged in shipping, port handling and ship-chandling.

Simon Mondon was educated at Seychelles College, riding his bicycle to school from his family home at Anse Forbans. After his secondary schooling, he worked at the Union Lighterage Company before leaving for Australia where he lived for a number of years. He returned home in the 1970s to work at Seychelles Breweries before starting his own shipping business. Because of political connections, he was one of those obliged to leave the country after the coup d’etat, setting up in the shipping business in Mauritius.

He remained close to Seychelles however and returned in 1991 after the re-introduction of multi-party politics.

Mr. Mondon died after a period of illness. He leaves behind his wife Denise and son Alain. He will also be remembered by many friends.
