Seychelles Review

This budget is simply OUTRAGEOUS!

When we saw the Appropriation Bill released last week we were shocked to see the massive increase in Government spending from SR 1.5 billion to SR 2.4 billion. We have been told to tighten our belts and to be "resilient" as times are tough and here is the Government asking for the largest ever increase in our budget in history!

This simply does not make any sense as the government has been ordered by IMF to cut its spending and balance the books. Instead they are doing the complete opposite. I am sure they will come back to the national Assembly in January for supplementary budget as has been hitherto the practice.

And we cannot believe that they still earmarked SR 82 million for the Department of Defence (the Army)! Plus some SR 355 million for so-called "Social Programmes from Central Development"!

The opposition in the National Assembly needs to do a thorough analysis and show the public clearly the increased percentage during their intervention on the Budget. They (Opposition MNAs) should be able to demonstrate clearly to the people that we are being taken for a ride by the Emperor-at-large! We just love State House's allocated budget of SR 33 million for 2009! Lots of traveling in first class and shopping sprees for luxury goods in designer shops by Mr. "Judge me by my actions" President and missus in toe, while the people go hungry. Lest we forget. SIMPLY UNREAL!
