SEYCHELLES FOUNDATION FOR NATIONAL RECONCILIATION AND PROSPERITY

Whereas since it became an Independent Nation on the 29th of June, 1976, the Republic of Seychelles has known a coup d'etat, the establishment of One Party State, a mutiny of soldiers, the disappearance of individuals, Seychellois becoming political refugees in several Nations, families have been divided, properties have been compulsorily acquired and/or confiscated without just compensation.

And whereas President James A. Michel declared in the State of the Nation’s Address 2008, that he is fully committed to bring fundamental changes in the way the country is governed and whereas his Government has recently engaged with the IMF in connection with an Economic Reform Program against the background of a national debt in excess of US$800, 000 million - and has recently called upon the people of Seychelles to endure sacrifices in the coming years. Now, it is resolved that a Foundation be registered under the law of Seychelles as follows:
Name: Seychelles Foundation for National Reconciliation and Prosperity (SFNRP)

Objectives:

(1) To promote National Unity.
(2) To promote the philosophy and practice of good and transparent governance.
(3) To promote respect for human rights.
(4) To promote justice and the rule of law.
(5) To promote a Seychelles First philosophy i.e. to ensure that the interest of Seychelles ranks above the interest of any Political Party or individuals with respect to any policy, law or executive decision.
(6) To promote a healing process within our community aimed at reaching as high a level of fraternal reconciliation as possible.
(7) To promote inter-faith dialogue, goodwill and understanding.
(8) To promote the cultivation of a culture of peace and non violence.
(9) To promote the education of our people based on traditional and universal values.
(10) To promote democratic practices and remove all elements of unjustified fear within our society.
(11) To revive the traditional “joie de vivre” of the Seychellois people and to balance it with an equal spirit of “joie de travaille”.
(12) To fight against corruption.
(13) To give a moral spiritual dimension to the Nation.
(14) To defuse unwarranted political polarization.
(15) To promote the reputation and dignity of the citizens of Seychelles.
(16) To guard against the growth of any form of communalism within our society which may constitute a menace to the welfare and well being of the Seychellois people.
(17) To encourage the Seychellois people to be friendly, courteous and generous among themselves and vis-à-vis visitors from overseas.
(18) To promote investments in Seychelles with a view to national prosperity.
(19) To promote the practice of respect for private property and the spirit of free enterprise.
(20) To promote the objective of a respectable and convertible Seychelles Rupee.
(21) To ensure that the Seychellois people has maximum access to information and thus to promote the development of independent televisions and radio stations within the Nation.
(22) To undertake all acts, deeds and initiatives connected with, and incidental to the attainment of the aforesaid objectives.
For many years now – the Founding President of the Republic – Mr James R. Mancham has been talking about the need to constitute the Seychelles Foundation for National Reconciliation & Prosperity (SFNRP).
No doubt this is an idea whose time has now come. It is proposed that in January 2009 a Think-Tank should be constituted to discuss a Charter for the SFNRP before it is registered under the Association Act of the Law of Seychelles. Meanwhile interested parties should address any comments to:

SFNRP – P.O. Box 29, Mahé,
Seychelles. Fax: (+248) 241 545 – E-mail: surmer@seychelles.
