  • To claim this training credit, Canadians must file a tax return for that year. 
  • The CTC Limit for that year must be over zero. It means Canadians must have an amount over zero in their CTC Account.

Before claiming the CTC on the tax return, the residents need to look at the Notice of Assessment to check out the CTC Limit. This would tell residents to know how much they can claim. 

  • To claim CTC, the residents need to file the return.
  • When filing the return, the residents need to enter the course and fee details using Line 45350. 
  • The residents can claim lesser of:
    • 50% of qualified tuition fee or 
    • The amount available in the CTC Limit. 

Suppose, if the course cost is $800 and the CTCL is $500 then the residents can claim $400 (50% of the course fee). If the Course fee is $1000 and the CTCL is $200 then the residents can only claim $200.
